My grandfather just gave me the last of his arsenal, and among this was a Savage 24 with no serial number. My objective is to date the production of the weapon. On top of the barrel says .22 WIN. MAGNUM R.F. ONLY (grew up shooting .22lr through it ) Receiver left side says: SAVAGE Savage Arms Corporation Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. Also has a small oval on the bottom right of the receiver that says 792 Receiver right side only says "SAVAGE 24" The barrel selector is on right side of receiver. The breach is on top, behind the hammer. Has an aluminum trigger guard.

Underneath foregrip on the underside of the barrel has "N", "E", and "J" below those. Also two unknown stamped shapes.
The barrel has a "G" in front of where it hooks into the receiver.

The oval containing what I thought was "729" is actually stamped upside down, and said "26L" making my weapon a 1960 model.
If anyone has any information as to where I can purchase a new .22 firing pin, it would be greatly appreciated.
It still works every time, but looks flattened/damaged.
One more thing, have any of you other 24 owners ever had one with a bulge in the 410 barrel?
The lower barrel hasn't been used in 10+ years, but I noticed a slight bulge about 6 inches from the muzzle.
I am looking to get this repaired somehow some way.
Thanks, Anthony

So upon cleaning the 410 barrel, the spot in the barrel with the bulge, is actually internally pitted pretty severely.. It's pretty upsetting.
If anyone ever comes across a 410/22lr, or 410/22mag barrel, let me know!!
