Hey fella's! I got a savage 24 "s" 20g / .22 that's in decent shape. one thing I noticed is that many of the model 24 break by a release on the top of the wrist. However on mine it is in front of the trigger guard. If anyone potentialy knows the year and the value range. I'd appretiate it. -Thanks

Sam,
You'll quickly find out that the devil is in the details with the Savage Model 24. As you have described it, your gun is a "Model 24 Series S" not to be confused with a "Model 24 S" which has a side lever action opening.
The "Series S" guns (those with the front of the trigger guard action opening slide block) first appeared in 1980 and ran through 1988. There were 3 guns found in this configuration: the 24C Series S, 24D Series S, and 24 Field Grade Series S. The 24C Series S is easy to distinguish because it has 20 inch barrels, a trap door ammunition storage compartment in the buttstock, and is engraved "24C Series S". The 24D Series S and 24 Field Grade Series models are very similar, but distinguishable. They are both identically marked with just "Model 24 Series S", however the 24D Series S has a semi-beavertail forend and fluted comb stock, both with pressed checkering. The 24 Field Grade Series S has a plain style stock and forend with no checkering. Once you figure out which one you have, please report back on which one it is for the benefit of those who are reading this.
As far as value, the Series S versions are not quite as sought after for their collectability. They do make excellent shooters though. A few years ago I purchased a 24 Field Grade Series P new in the box for $450, but only because it was absolutely new and contained all of the original paperwork and box. That being said, I think you'll find $300-350 is about the general concensus of a fair price for a common variety Model 24 gun that is in good condition.

I was wondering if anyone knows if my 24 series "S"-E will shoot .22 magnum? The shot gun will shoot 2 3/4 and 3in. as well. Thanx.

Note: It's a Savage, not a NOOBIE.

I just bought a Field Grade 24S in the same caliber/gauge for $299, from a major auction site, if that helps. Nicer versions sell for a bit more, but not too much more.
Of course, I haven't gotten my hands on it yet, so it might be a lemon--I doubt it, but you never know 'til you get hold of it.
