I just purchased one of these and am interested to know what date it was manufactured in and any other information someone may have. The serial # is C483*** . It is .222 Remington over 20 gauge.
The gun is in excellent condition. Some 45 years ago when I was a kid growing up in the country a neighbor had one of these guns and would loan it to me to hunt with. I thought it was one of the neatest guns made then and perhaps still do.
I am proud to have found one in as good of condition as I have and look forward to some information. Thank you.

Thank you Savage Combo.
I did find an oval circle with "SP" stamped on the top barrel. I did not find any other stamps with numbers or letters in a circle anywhere on the firearm. I did not however remove the forearm piece to look under for any marking. Would this firearm be manufactured 1965 or 1963?
Thank you so much for the information.

Your gun was made in the late 1970's. After the Gun Control Act of 1968 took effect, serial numbers on guns became mandatory and really nullify the small oval stamps Savage used to date guns. The stamps only pertain to guns made between 1949 and 1968 when there was no serial numbers.
The exact date of your guns production is one of my on going efforts for the book. The 24V Series D shows up in catalogs in 1979. The 24 V-A started in 1969 and ends sometime in the mid-1970's. The 24V Series B and Series C show up in between, but I don't have exact dates yet. I know it's not much help, but it's the best info you can get right now.

Mr. Odell,
Thank you so much for the information and it was a tremendous help. It seems to be hard to get information on the older combination guns. I am really excited to get the one I have.
Thank you again and it is very much appreciated.

Can you post a pic of your 24V? I have one aswell in the same caliber. My receiver has unique hot oil markings on it, I would just like to see yours to check it out for comparison.
Thanks
Al
