This is my first post here. I have a 24D series P in .22LR/.410 that my dad bought for me as a Christmas gift back in 1973. I used the gun a lot when I was a kid, but I probably haven't fired it in over 25 years now. It just stays in the gun safe unless I pull it out from time to time to have a look at it like I did today.
It seems that at sometime in the past, the rear sight became loose and will wiggle quite freely. left to right. I don't know the proper procedure to secure it so that it won't move. I'm thinking that I could take the rifle to the range and shoot it until I figure out where it needs to be set and then tack it into place with some epoxy or something....or perhaps there is a better way that I haven't considered? Do any of you guys know how to properly tighten it?
It seems that there is a sort of half circle band mounted to the top of the rifle barrel, just forward of the dovetail grooves. Then, the rear sight seems to be mounted into this band with some tabs. Maybe the tabs should be squeezed to tighten? I don't want to damage anything, so I'll wait to see if anyone has some feedback for me before I try to repair it.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

I use a drop of threadlocker blue to secure all of my drift adjustable rear sights after zeroing. The blue kind can be undone, where as red is permanent. I would make sure it is sighted in before you put a drop on it though, as it is still pretty hard to undo the blue formula.
