Hi Guys, This is my first post here. I have been reading all I could find on any and all 24's. To start off - thank you very much for a great Forum!! I am looking at a 24S - in 22LR/20ga. As far as I can tel its the model with the side release lever (what the "S" is for). I was originally looking for a 22/410 combo as the main purpose will be as a foraging rifle/shotgun while camping out in the woods, but I see no harm in the 20ga. Know the questions: 1. Is there any specific weaknesses on the 24S to worry about? 2. Are there any benefit/negative with the side release rather than the tang release? 3. What must I be in the look out for when buying the secondhand 24? Any specific problems? 4. Is the 24S 22LR/20ga a 20" or 24" barrel? 5. What kind of Choke on the 20ga? Sorry for all the questions. Cheers nomad

Hopefully this will help.
1. Is there any specific weaknesses on the 24S to worry about? The 24S guns are not seen as that collectible (I would disagree with that about 2 of them) so you should be able to pick one up at a decent price. The side-lever guns are the most radically different in design as compared to the rest of the 24 models, but solid guns. No real weekness stands out on them.
2. Are there any benefit/negative with the side release rather than the tang release? I personally think the side lever is a benefit because of less springs and moving parts. However either of them stands up well over time.
3. What must I be in the look out for when buying the secondhand 24? Any specific problems? The stocks are very different than the rest of the 24 guns. So cracking, which is normal on the others is very bad for the 24S. 4. Is the 24S 22LR/20ga a 20" or 24" barrel? 24" is the standard. Only the 24C Campers Companion guns, and the 24 Survival guns came with 20" barrels.
5. What kind of Choke on the 20ga? It ranges from gun to gun, but expect anywhere from modified to extra full.
