Greetings Savage savy's, I recently inherited my deceased Fathers first gun. It was given to me by my Grandfather, he as a diagnosis of Alzheimers. He told me that he bought the gun in 1965 for my Dads 16th birthday It is a Savage 24DL. The model number is double stamped and it loks just like the google pics I have looked at. My qestion is; It appears by preliminary research it may have been made in 1962? (How can I confirm that) and was it normal to double stamp the model number? And finally what if any recommendations on insurance value? Thank you in advance for any informtaion.

Auntx23,
Check the FAQ page regarding the date codes to verify the year of manufacture. 1962 is a high probability.
as far as the double stamping, a picture is worth a 1000 words. Drop a picture of the stamping in the photo gallery an give us a look. I can't say that it is very common, but most likely a mishap on the production line.
