I've owned 24's for a while now, but am new to the forum. I fell in love with the 24's when I saw my old .222 over 20 gauge sitting on the shelf at the gun shop. I bought it but money got tight and I had to sell. I am trying build a collection since money is a little easier to come by whenever I can, and recently came across a guy wanting to trade his 357 over 20 gauge. I ended up trading a post 64 Winchester model 94 and a Marlin 35 Remington for it. Total investment was $500 which seems fair compared to prices I found online. Right after I traded for that, I saw a Savage model 242 advertised for sale. I never knew they made these until then. The gun is almost exact to my 24, but has a straight stock. I'm not sure if I over paid, but since this was the first and only one I have ever seen I paid the guy's asking price of $470. Also, when researching the 242, I'm only coming across series C, but the one I bought is a series D. The only info I can find are parts for it, which is unnecessary since mine looks to be almost new condition.
Can anyone help me out with values on these guns?
