Hello, I am new here and it is exciting to find a community passionate about these rifles. I have a Model 24 that my father gave to me. It was a gift from a family friend to my dad when he was seven back in 1966. The rifle is really beat up so I am going to refinish it but I have no idea where to aquire parts. The metal assembly inside the forend that keeps the forend on is broken. I also noticed when I use the selector switch on the side that i am getting light primer strikes on the shotgun barrel. Is the shotgun barrels firing pin free floating like a makarov's firing pin is or is something wrong with it that I need to replace. Thanks for your time.

Big Kelly nailed it for parts. You can get the forearm parts you want, either a piece at a time or a complete assembly (around $20, I recall) at e-gunparts (also known as Numrich). The firing pin on Stevens singleshot shotguns and the Stevens/Savage .22/.410 is free-floating -- no spring involved.
