Hello, new to the forum. I recently purchased a model 24c series p. it is marked 20 ga 2 3/4". I noticed that it will chamber 3" shells. My question is, was this a possible rechambering or do the factory 20 ga accept 3" shells. If the chamber was altered is it safe to shoot 3" or even standard 20 ga now. Thank you for any help with this.

Mine is stamped 3" but I just tried measuring the chamber depth and I can't get anything to stop at the ridge at the end of the chamber. Right now I am on my way out the door and can't take the time to pursue this. See if you can measure yours then post it someone or me later will respond.

MY GUN SMITH TOLD ME THAT SHOTGUNS MARKED (FOR EXAMPLE ) 2 3/4" CAN BE LOADED WITH 3" SHELLS BUT THE LONGER SHELL MAY NOT OPEN CORRECTLY OR COMPLETELY WHEN FIRED AND THAT WILL AFFECT THE PATTERN

Never fire a s shell in a 2 3/4" chambered shotgun. It could burst the barrel. Take it to a gunsmith to see for sure but if it truly in a 3" chamber it will measure 3 1/2" in length. That is to allow the petals on the shell to open up.

As a matter of interest would it then be okay to shoot a brass 3" shell in a 2 3/4 mark gun?

You might run into pressure problems in that case, depends on the load I would figure also and how the chamber is cut. Make sure before you shoot as not to ruin a classic firearm and shooter!

Ok, measured chamber it comes in at 3" even. Here's the rub though. A 3" shotgun shell measures 2 1/2". So is a 3" chamber sufficient. Or is it just about chamber wall thickness.
