I am a new member and just purchased a 24V Series A and was hoping to tap the knowledge on this board for some help. My 222/20 is shooting very inconsistently and I would like to know if there are any accuracy tricks or quirks for the 24. I am shooting off a bench at 100 yds and my group is all over the place. I can not get even two shots to group better than 6". Thank you in advance for any help.

First thing I would check is if anything anywhere on the gun is loose, Sights, fore end, lockup, stuff like that. Do you rest the gun the same everytime? on the fore end or on the barrel..move it around a bit and see what works best...just someplace to start..oh..are you using factory ammo?

Have a similar model. 24V series C, .222/20. I've found that after the first shot with the .222 the point of impact seems to walk across the target face due to the warming of the barrel. For first shot accuracy the gun shoots right on. The second shot is just a little off. This isn't a target rifle, it's a hunter's gun. I've been shooting this gun for many years. I handload and have tried many different loads and bullets, all show similar results. Anytime you have a piece of cold steel attached to a piece of warming steel I think you'll see this happen. Use this gun as intended and enjoy!

I have been playing with my "new" H model .22 WM and have been shooting good groups at 75 yards but loose the grouping at 100 yds. I can put 5 shots thorugh a single jagged hole at 50 yards. So, as they said at Bunker Hill, "hold your fire 'till you see the whites of their eyes". Do squirls even have white eyes?

You might check the crown on your barrel. Would be a cheap easy fix, if thats the problem.

Thanks for the replies. I will try and give you guys a better idea of my problem and what I have done and checked up till now.
I checked the stock screws and they were tight. I was not sure if they require a specific torq so I just made sure they were tight. I removed, cleaned and reinstalled the scope mount with loctite. I was using a Weaver V-16 that was previously on a 22-250 and I had no problems with the scope at that time. I shoot off a stationary heavy wood bench with a sand bagged metal adjustable rest and a sand bag under the butt. I always shoot with the stock resting on the bag.
I tried factory Federal 50 gr soft point and Hornady Superperformance 50 gr vmax.
I was hoping to get some info from the experts on 24s here on this site on anything that might be specifically troublesome with the 24 that is not a problem with bolt guns or AR platforms.
I know the 24 is not a target rifle and that it is a hunting rifle but I believe it should shoot a 100 yd 3 shot 1-1/2" group. If this is not feasible with the 24 please let me know.
Once again Thank You for all the replies and if you can think of anything else let me know.

Jerry M Howdy, One thing with the 222 rem is bullet weight as the rifling is a little slow or fast (i ca never remember which)for the 50 gr projectiles. I had a similar issue went ot 45 gr projectiles and pulled my groups in a remakable amount.

Brawny, I saw a brochure that gave them a 1:14. I have only been able to find 50 gr. ammo in my area and I don't want to buy dies yet. I will try and find some online in 45 and give them a try. If I can get this thing to fire a cold bore shot consitently I would be happy with it.
Jerry.

What I did to prove to myself what was going on with the barrel warming was to shoot 1 shot each day for a few days at the same target, at the same distance. I saw a group develop instead of a string of holes across the target face. I have also found that 50 gr or less bullets seem to give the best accuracy overall. I my .222 some of the newer balistic tip bullets don't do as well. It seems to have something to do with length as much as weight. My all around load in this gun is a 55 gr Hornady SP. This is a little shorter though heavier. You might want to do some of this initial testing at 50yds instead of 100 even if you already have a scope mounted.

My 30-30/20 is accurate to about 100 yards. I find that it is all in the trigger pull. They are a bit rough. Develop a routine and stick with it. I have to put some pressure on mine then take a breath and squeeze.

My first thoughts have already been mentioned: check the muzzle crown and tighten all the "belts and straps." You might also shoot it without the scope....assuming you have iron sights....to confirm the scope and mounts are not issues.
222 Rem almost universally have 1-14" twist; I haven't checked mine, but I'd bet my house on it. That means almost any 50 gr. or less should shoot fine....in fact, I once found an article on the 222 and some guy was winning matches back in the day with Sierra 53 gr. bullets.
I have all kinds of bullets in my inventory, so when I got mine, I bought a set of Lee dies and made 6 loads, from 50 to 35 gr. Dunno....maybe Big Kelly should have charged me more....mine has been very accurate from the get-go!

I believe 1/12 is common too.
When I was younger and shot lots of .222 we shot 52gr Sierras, which are kind of short in length IIRC, but that was in a Savage 340.
Later years I had a TC contender barrel and shot 55 gr Noslar BT's, but they probably have a faster twist.
Both shot wonderful.
