I recently acquired a Savage 24C and discovered that I can only get one 20 gauge shell in the ammo storage area of the stock. I have read several places that the 24C holds two 20 gauge shells. The storage tube is longer than the single shell causing it to not fit snugly into the storage compartment, and it moves around (rattles) when the gun is carried. Any other 24C owners encounter the same issue? Thanks! The 24C is one sweet little gun

Yes, i had it in a gun once. Seems that the stock swelled over time, and only one shell would fit in there. Reamed it out with a proper sized drill bit is all it took.
And yes, usually the bolt hole is where the 20 ga shells go. Well, usually it is. Stranger things have happened with the 24's over the years!

There were 3 different storage options produced during the entire line of the 24C. I seem to remember that one of them only held on shotgun shell. Like jeffb1911 said, you could ream it out to hold more if you wanted.

While we are on the subject, is the hole that holds the 20 ga shells the same one with the bolt to frame?

Yes, on my 24C the 20 Gauge storage is the same as the bolt hole.
