Hey everybody, I am new to the forum and just picked up my first 24. It's a Savage 24 series p in 22/20ga with 20" barrels and I have to say I absolutely love it. I did find however that the 20ga was shooting low and left of the 22. I ended up putting a small shim I cut from a pop can between shotgun barrel and the ring and that fixed her right up. There is no stamp saying what choke it is, but does shoot a open pattern. My question is what others who have these 24's with the shorter barrels find the best ammo for the tightest possible patterns.

Great shim idea, welcome to the forum! Just try different rounds to see what patterns best in your gun. That is the fun part!

Thanks guys, I was actually amazed that shim worked as well as it did, it ended up over doubling the pellet count inside a 10" circle at 25 yds.

After reading different things on this forum trying to date my 24 I am now wondering if this is the original barrels? Stamped on the receiver is SAVAGE 24 series p. But from what I have seen the only guns with the short barrels are the camper version marked with a c. So I am wondering was there any strictly p models made with the short barrels, or are mine not original?
