I was wondering if anyone has ever tried a red dot on their 24 and if so what your thoughts are on them. I have a 24 model p in 22/20ga. I absolutely love the gun but the sights very thick trying to shoot out 40yds or so and they just cover up to much of target. I don't want any magnification, just want to be able to see more of the area surrounding whatever I am shooting at and still have a chance at flying birds and skeets with the 20. I know I am probably asking to much out it, but anyone's input would be greatly appreciated.

I found that using a scope with see thru rings seems to work best for me.A rimfire scope without a front bell will not block the open sight picture

I was thinking of mounting a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on my Savage 24F 30-30 Win. / 12 gauge as a pig hunting rifle. I'm getting close to getting this done.

My first impression is that you're putting the perfect sight on the perfect Mdl 24 for that particular critter. Be sure to post photos of your successful hunts!

I have a 24V, D, .357 Max over 20. I haven't tried a red dot on it, but I have on several Handi Rifles. I took them off and replaced them with scopes because the dot covered too much of the target area. I know people who have sighted Red dots in so the POI is either at 12 or 6 o'clock on the dot so they can see more of the target. I prefer a fixed 4 power or a 3-9x40 on shorter range rifles, or a larger scope on my longer shooters.

I put a TRS-25 on mine, via a see through dovetail to picatinny adapter.
Seems to work quite well.

I found a post that had the scope mount linked in it, but would still like to know about the optic you have.

Sighted in the 30-30 yesterday - its going to be an awesome combination, I think. The red dot dialed to 2 in the moonlight should work really well and it was really easy to zero with 150 grain SPs. Even in full sun, 4 was plenty bright enough to show up well.

The mount is one made for airguns. Its available a number of places ebay and pyramid air are here I would look. I got it used on a airgun I bought year or so back. Its design affords excellent retension with the recoil of the shotgun! Most tip off style "22" rings will NEVER hold up to shotgun recoil... this mount will and does!
The scope is a older Ultra dot red dot. They are really good quality and cost about 150. Cheap red dots have terrible parallax, this one does not.

I have the TRS on my 22/20. Mounted it on the Perfect Adapter Rear Optics Rail. Excellent combo. The combo will knock the center out of a target at 50 yards with standard velocity .22's and the slugs print 3" lower but group nicely. I haven't shot the combo much but my initial impressions are good.
