Okay Model 24 fanatics, I'm drilling deeper into writing chapters of the book. So here is one of many questions I will need your assistance with in the coming weeks.
This question is sort of a two part-er regarding the 24S (side lever) models. Does anyone have a Model 24S-D with a serial number or a 24S-E without a serial number?
Because the Gun Control Act of 1968 was not enacted until October 22 of that year, and it coincides with the switch from the 24S-D and 24S-E, I'm trying to see if Savage still had 24S-D models still in inventory that had to be marked before the shipped, or started marking all 24S-E models in anticipation of the requirements, or waited to mark the 24S-E models once the law took effect. Complicated? Yes. But it will make for a better book with a more comprehensive history.
Thanks for your help!

My 24S-E has a serial number. I dated the gun a 1970 model. .22mag over a 20ga.
