Hello All,
I just found this site today after scouring the internet for information on my shotgun rifle. It is a 22/410 and the rifle barrel states 22 magnum only. I'm searching for as much information as I can find because I may have to sell it. It may be the most valuable thing I own-except for my Jeep and my land. I've always been proud to have that gun, but I do not know the history on it. I found it hidden away in my great grandfather's house. No one in the family knows anything about it. There's no serial number - so pre-1968. It has the "game scenes" on the satin chrome finish; has the right side button barrel selector, gold trigger, walnut stocks, and it says it is Model 24DL. I would appreciate any info and advice. Thank you in advance!

You've already figured out a lot about the gun. As you say, it's a pre-'68. Others on this site can help you date it more accurately, probably to the early to middle 1960s. The "DL" standa for "deluxe." The gun should have a Monte Carlo stock (dips down at the top rear of the stock) and should have checkering on stock and forearm. The magnum probably makes it worth a little more than if it were a .22 LR. The value of these (and all 24s) depends heavily on condition. Raggedy one can still be found for well under $300, but really clean ones often show up with price tags in the $600 or higher range. I personally see few sell for that much; selling prices that I've seen in the last year or so have been in the $400 to $500 range for guns with good bluing, clean, uncracked wood and an unworn finish on the brushed nickel receiver and gold trigger. Ultimately, price is whatever the market will bear. Good luck with selling or keeping. Please remember that if it's a family gun, once it's gone it's gone.

Riversong, Does your Savage look anything like the one I found on Gunbroker, which has a 20 ga barrel instead of 410? www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=319936813SC
