My wifes grandfather gave me this gun for my son. It is missing the front sight. Does anyone have any resources for this part. The gun is in great shape. I had to replace the trigger guard it was broken. Other than that it's in perfect working condition.

I've got a set of sights from a 24V. I PMed Jason24V about the front, but haven't heard anything yet. My partner thinks it'll work on his gun. If anyone needs the rear, or possibly the front too, let me know.

Pete,
I don't know if you are aware of this or not, but that is a 1966 produced (1st year) Savage Model 24V. You can tell because the front sight is not an integral part of the barrel band. THe only year it was produced like that. Sorry for geeking out on you, but I love the rare oddities of the Savage 24.
Sweet gun. wish I could find one. Good luck with the search for parts.

Yes, I know. There's no barrel band on mine. It's a silver soldered post between the barrels. A barrel band would have made shortening the barrels much easier.

Pete That's what I thought too.. glad I figured out it wasn't as simple as it seemed before I cut the barrels. I was about to do that on my 24C Series P, make it 18". A simple matter of sliding the barrel band farther back, cutting and crowning. Only thing was, slight and unnoticeable as the tapper is, sliding it back spread the barrels father and farther apart. Plus on top of that the barrel band wouldn't slide all the way back, I would have needed to open the inside diameter up a bit on both halves. I decided 2" wasn't worth all the work and put it back the way it was.

A machinist friend is doing the work for me. He's already done his own 24V, and is finishing regulating the barrels on mine. It's not a job I'd have tackled on my own.

Sorry been real busy with work so you say this is a 1966 modle. I talked to a gun smith and he thinks he can put a front sight on the top barrel for me. Will this hurt the value.
Funny story, I was taking to my wifes grandfather and asked him what happened to the front & rear sight. He started laughing and thinks his wife broke them off because they fight a lot and he used to tell her he was going to get his gun. Go figure... I am going to up load a couple of pictures of the front sight.

There is a barrel for sale on ebay right now, that matches this one. Front sight is not part of the barrel band.

Thats what I thought? Does the barrel band crimp the front sight? I saw that barrel on e-bay. We will see if I bid.
