My grandfather was a hunter and for as long as I can remember, he had 2 cases full of guns that I would spend hours staring at every time I visited his home. From the deer rifles to the very expensive double shotguns in the cases, I loved them all. But one stood out to me as the finest gun ever made. The perfect gun. It was his Savage 24s-e. The gun to use when you want to hunt everything in season all at the same time. This was the gun that I would ask him to get out and tell me about the hunting adventure he had with it. This was the gun that I always hoped would one day be mine to use just like he did in his stories. For squirrel, for deer, for turkey, for quail, for pheasant for anything that flew or ran that would make a tasty meal for my family. And now that gun is mine. I lost my grandfather about 2 years ago now and just recently the Savage 24s-e came to my home. I wish I could walk in the woods with him, but I can't. I can however walk in the woods like him and carrying his old savage gives me a connection that I will never loose. I have added 2 more model 24s to the collection and I intend to add more as I am able. The current collection includes (from top):
my grandfathers Savage model 24s-e in .22 over 20 gauge. Soldered barrels with perfect regulation put any round I want just where I want it. The hammer selector does not have the arrows to indicate which barrel is being selected. Other models I have seen have the arrows, any insight into the absence of the arrows would be greatly appreciated.
Savage model 24 22mag over 410. This also has the soldered barrels and is quite accurate with both barrels. I do wish 22mag were a little easier to find. This gun points, swings, and carries very well!
Savage model 24V. .222 over 20 gauge. This is my newest addition and with its separated barrels, I expect to have to do a little bit of work to get it regulated just right, but it is an absolute beauty and I am thrilled to have it.
