I love my 24, and it is my primary squirrel/small game gun. What does everyone else use theirs for? Predators, turkeys, backpack gun, collector, or whatever?

All of the above plus white tail deer, between my 24C, My 24V(.223/20GA) and my Savage four-tenner, I can't manage to use any of my other guns. I guess there could be worse things to complain about. Squirrel and ruffed grouse being the most common.

I'll be using the 24v for a brush gun this year plus predators if the occasion arises.

Collecting, accumulating, investment, tinkering with refinishing to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. I don't shoot them.

I think of mine as my "Walking about" gun .
Tree rats in top branches , Pigeons on the wing , And rabbits on the ground . Not my best gun for any of the above tasks , Given the choice , Id rather have a 12G for the tree rats on the move and woodies , And a .17HMR for rabbits on the ground , Or maybe a scoped .22RF bolt action on a bipod .
Having said that , The Savage .22/.410 really comes into its own for at least trying to cover as many bases as possible . If Ive not real plans about where Im going , Or what Im after , Chances are Ill have my Savage with me .
All the best fellas .

Me too, Andy. In the fall here in WV almost everything is in season. I absolutely love to still hunt the October woods, but it seemed like whichever gun I had, shotgun or rim fire, I needed the other one. My 24 is doing great as my "whatever" gun.

SquirrelMaster .
Here in the UK we have to apply for "Slots" on your license for each and every firearm you wish to own .
While asking for the "Slots" you have to state what your planning on using each firearm for (IE Target shooting , Vermin control etc...) I asked for (And got) My Savage while stating I didnt like taking 2 guns out with me , And felt the Savage was the better option .
Combination guns in the UK are a bit of a oddity , I had to ask for a special slot , Normally you could just ask for a .22RF , But for a combination gun , I had to ask for the slot to be .22RF/.410 .
And , Ive just seen a .22RF/20G that looks really nice , And at a decent price too (£150!!) Thinking I may have to ask for yet another slot maybe!!!
All the best SM .
Andy .

I have two savage 24,s , a 24d .22/20, and 24v 30-30/20. I havent hunted with either yet, both new to me, only range work so far. I put a leupold 1x4 shotgun scope on the .22/20 combo and cant wait to hunt some chicken of the tree with it.

As everyone knows ,I have a BUNCH and I use them for all my different hunting needs--from shooting tree rats in the back yard (with 209 primers and 22 caliber air pellets--my 24V-A 222/20) to hogs (24V in 357 max/20) to deer from a tree stand (model 2400 12/308 or 12/22 HP) and turkey (24F 12/223) There's nothing else like 'em!!!! Oh yeah I put 12/12 barrels on my 2400 for dove wait ! foregot 410 over 410 for rabbits on my 24V

I got my 24V. 30-30/ 20ga for a back up gun while hunting and it rides behind the seat of my truck when ever I go into the back country. I have used it to take a bear and on a turkey hunt.

My .22mag/20 is becoming my all time favorite hunting gun. Today it dropped a turkey at 80 yds. I love this gun.
Tried 3 times to post a pic, I quit!
