Since I can't figure how to post pics here's the 2 different types of 24V barrels look at gun broker # 386458343--this is what I refer to as a "pinned" barrel--it is only available in (I think)222 and it will have the front site as part of the barrel band. now look at gun broker # 387713513 this is what I call a welded barrel--yes it's a 30-30 gun but 223,357 (both mag and max ),22 hornet and SOME 222's are this style--the front site is a simple ramp attached with a screw the extractor plate for the pinned style barrel will not work in the welded style ones but all other parts seem to swap ok

I'm assuming that is in answer to my earlier question about extractors. Thanks for posting the links. In actually neither of those are similar to my rifle. If you go back to my introductory post (Rescue mission), you'll see the barrel block covers both the centerfire and shotgun barrels instead of just nesting the centerfire barrel as in those examples. By the way, to post photos you have to save them on an image hosting site like photobucket or similar, then either use the "add photo" tool in the advanced reply window, or just cut and paste the "IMG code" from the hosting site.

For series B I dont doubt you... As it turns out I misread the datecode FAQ and was misinterpreting the markings on the gun as a result. It's not a series B but a 24V (I guess that would make it a "pre A"). It's obvious now with a whopping 48 hours of reading/learning about these guns under my belt, but I didn't make the connection until a few hours ago.
The photo in my original rescue post shows the breech block clearly. Now it's a dead giveaway that I was barking up the wrong tree.
Anyway, I still need to figure out if the barrels (or at least one barrel) are removable from the breech block or not.

I'm sure they can be cut down. I was just thinking of how to do it with my existing tool and skill set. Doing the work on my lathe would involve removal of at least one barrel. (Hint, this is also an excuse to play with the lathe). I could probably cut both barrels without removing them nicely with my horizontal mill and then recrown which is another option that I haven't investigated thoroughly yet.
