I recently came across a Savage 24 barrel advertised/chambered in .22LR/20ga. I was surprised when it arrived it was a .22 Magnum/20ga. barrel. My question, has anyone "Fitted" a Model 24 barrel to another frame? And will the chamber of the Magnum barrel line up with the breech/firing pin of my .22LR/20ga. breech/receiver? I know the guys on Graybeards Outdoors hand fit different barrels to different receivers all the time on H.R./NEF Handi rifles. Just wondering if anyone here has any success/advice with Model 24s?
Thanks

I have tried every penetrating oil known to man.... started with Kroil, PB Blaster, and JB-80. I was able to push/move the plunger down, so that it was flush with the hammer, it required some force, much more than the spring resistance. I then had a "Oh S**t" moment, because the plunger wasn't moving back up! Well after more Juice and using an engraver/Electric pencil to "Vibrate" the hammer, I eventualy got it to work back up. But it is still stiff/siezed I have not tried heat/Juice yet though. niellr, I will PM on the way with my Email.

So its approaching a year since I originally posted the problem I have with a seized barrel selector plunger... see above for details. I have been working on it, on and off, and I have come to a conclusion that In order to free up the plunger/detent, I need to disassemble and remove the hammer and aggressively try to free it. My question, Is there some sort of tutorial/ or step by step guide for disassembly/reassembly of the hammer? Is it fairly straightforward? Or will I regret that I ever purchased the coveted 24 Camper? I have tried searching the forum but have had no luck to date finding specific disassembly steps. Im sure its here, but could use some help.
Thanks CZVZ

I see on the Numrich Web site a schematic that depicts a spring and plunger living inside the hammer assembly. It's not really clear how its held captive but my guess is its on the lower part of the hammer Pointing/pushing up, I see the selector has some steps/notches towards the bottom. I'm assuming the plunger seats into the notch/step to hold the selector in the appropriate position. I squirted some "Juice" into the hammer/selector groove hoping it will work its way into the spring plunger assembly. The previous owner inherited the gun, and claimed his Father in Law never shot it. So I don't thing anything is wore or broken... hopefully frozen/seized as Painter suggested.
Thanks to all that have replied

So I took my newly acquired 22/20 ga. Camper to the range, started with the .22 with the hammer mounted "Selector in the up position. I shot several rounds and all seemed well. Then I tried the 20 ga. with the selector in the down position.... misfire. I tried several more times before I realized what was happening. The Selector, is flopping back and forth, there is no resistance, or detent to hold it in the down/shotgun position. I loaded both a 22 and shotshell and set the selector down and tried again.... the 22 fired. So what I think is happening is the "Inertia".... I think that's the correct term is causing the selector to swing up to the 22 position. So, my question is this a broken missing part? Or is there something that needs a suttle sledge hammer blow to tighten up the selector. Ultimately I got the shotgun to fire by jamming a small twig into the hammer/selector mechanisim, thus holding the selector down. Your thoughts?

So I picked it up for $425.00 I'm somewhat photographically challenged so excuse the lack of detail in the photo. One other question, the case appears to in fairly good shape, but the plastic is stiff/hard.... its lost its suppleness, so is there anything I can use to restore/rejuvenate the plastic? I'm thinking on the line of "Armorall". Your thoughts? CZVZ

Im a hunter/gatherer - collector/plinker. When I saw this one I couldn't, not buy it..... even the beat/rusted/pitted ones sell for around $300.00. The guy at the shop said it was Nickel, but I don't think it is, I think it's stripped down " In the White"

Recently I picked from LGS a 22/410 for $100.00 and some change. The barrel/receiver has no bluing whatsoever, I assumed the previous owner stripped/removed all the bluing for some odd reason down to bare metal. But now Im wondering, did Stevens/Savage ever manufacture a Nickel plated 22/410? How do I tell if its Nickel or "In the White" ? I don't have or know anything about Nickel Plating so any help, is appreciated. The Gun functions/shoots fine.

Sorry for the poor cell phone photos, but I think you can see the general appearance. Soohhhwahhh ........ what do you think? Is that a sight that Savage may have used? Is the Butt Stock A Savage buttstock..... I kinda think it might be off of a Remington. I know it definitely dose not match the grain and coloration of the forearm. Thanks for all who have replied CZVZ
